In Romania, 5 lei will buy you a beer or a woman. Putting both together can lead to trouble. To escape prying eyes, Mihai and his married lover, Miha set off on a fishing trip and picnic in remote woods. Already under pressure, Miha hits and kills street prostitute, Ana, with her car. She is terrified of their affair being discovered so persuades Mihai to hide the body. Miraculously, Ana comes round and the couple tell her that she fainted so they stopped to help; but how much does Ana really know, and what does she want to gain from the situation?
As the characters play games with each other, circling and probing each other\'s emotional weak points, so the camera continually shifts perspective. We are never quite sure who is telling the truth, and who is manipulating who. Is Ana what she seems to be; why is she also called Violeta? Why is she trying to provoke a split between Mihai and Miha? Is it revenge, or are her motives more sinister? From a chance accident, Hooked creates a raw and tense drama of vulnerable and desperate people, forced to cross moral boundaries just to survive.

About the director Adrian Sitaru:
Born in 1971, Adrian Sitaru graduated in IT and cinema. After having made several shorts, including Waves in 2007, which won awards in several festivals (Locarno, Sarajevo, Namur, Milano...) and some TV dramas, he went on to directing his first feature, pescuit Sportiv. He is currently working on a new project, For Love With Best Intentions, selected for Cinefondation in Cannes, the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam and Cinemart at the Rotterdam Festival.
"I\'ve always been interested in human behaviour. Unlike other species, our behaviour is often absurd, governed by an innate sense of self-destruction. From the time when I began writing the script for Pescuit Sportiv, I always "saw" the story from the point of view of each of the characters, hence my choice for a subjective camera. This helped me to show, without necessarily "telling", that everything that was happening was the result of the point of view of someone on the outside: this presence could be called God, and angle, the director or any other presence looking on...".

MIHAI este profesor de matematica in Bucuresti, nefericit din cauza compromisurilor cerute de directoarea scolii. Pentru a se relaxa dupa o saptamana stresanta, Mihai si iubita lui, IUBI, ies din Bucuresti la un picnic pe malul unui lac.
Dar ziua ia un curs diferit cand Iubi loveste cu masina o prostituata, la marginea unui drum neasfaltat din afara Bucurestiului. Acest accident da nastere unei dispute intre cei doi: Iubi vrea sa ascunda accidentul iar Mihai, moralist, nu poate accepta asa ceva. Insa agresiva Iubi castiga in detrimentul blandului Mihai. Hotaresc impreunca ca cel mai bun loc de a scapa de accidentata este padurea din apropiere.
Insa prostituata, care isi pierduse cunostinta, isi revine. Cei doi se eschiveaza pretinzand ca au gasit-o ranita pe marginea drumului, iar ANA - prostituata - se autoinvita la picnic.
Incet, incet, Ana se strecoara in viata cuplului, agresand-o subtil pe Iubi, fermecandu-l pe Mihai, mimand indiferenta cand sunt toti impreuna. Aparent cu cele mai bune intentii, ea ii minte si ii manipuleaza. Comportamentul ei scoate la iveala incetul cu incetul tensiunile din cuplu, faptul ca Iubi este casatorita cu un alt barbat, iar Mihai este un iubit chinuit de o relatie pe care si-ar dori-o oficializata. Si nu in ultimul rand, Mihai descopera in Ana o fiinta senzuala si interesanta, motiv de gelozie si posesivitate din partea lui Iubi.
Cuplul isi autodeconsipra accidentul, Mihai se "spovedeste" Anei, Iubi ii ofera bani. Dar Ana nu-si doreste in schimb decat iubirea lor, atat de mult incat le face in particular propuneri sexuale. Prinsi intre ciocan si nicovala cuplul explodeaza intr-o cearta finala ireversibila dar, in acelasi timp, purificatoare.
Despre regizorul Adrian Sitaru:
Nascut in 1971, Adrian Sitaru a absolvit Universitatea Tehnica din Timisoara, Facultatea de Automatizari si Calculatoare si apoi Universitatea Media, luandu-si licenta in regie de film si TV la IATC I.L Caragiale.
A regizat seriale pentru televiziune, cateva mediu-metraje de televiziune, apoi a scris si regizat filmul de scurt metraj "Valuri", care a castigat numeroase premii in festivaluri internationale importante:

In anul 2008 finalizeaza filmul de lung metraj "Pescuit sportiv" care la randul lui este apreciat in festivaluri de film internationale si primeste premiul pentru cel mai bun film din competitia "New Voices" a Festivalului de Film International de la Plam Springs 2009, Premiul Juriului la Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2008 si Estoril Film Festival 2008 si premiul pentru interpretare feminina ex-aequo Ioana Flora si Maria Dinulescu la Thessaloniki International Film Festival 2008.
Acum lucreaza la un nou proiect de lung metraj fictiune "Din dragoste, cu cele mai bune intentii" a carui scenariu scris de Adrian Sitaru a fost selectat pentru o bursa la Cinefondation in Cannes, la Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam si Cinemart al Festivalului de Film de la Rotterdam.
"M-a interesat intotdeauna comportamentul uman; sa inteleg de ce ne purtam sau ma port cum ma port, de ce omul este o fiinta atat de autodistructiva nu doar fizic dar si psihologic, in relatiile pe care le avem.
De la simpla tigara pina la relatiile de iubire - si o facem de cele mai multe ori cu placere. Incerc sa inteleg acest comportament, sa aflu poate mai multe si despre mine... Cred ca pot intelege de ce avem razboaie - e un mod competitiv de supravietuire pe care il are orice animal, dar nu inteleg de ce ne place sa ne autodistrugem ca persoane in sine. Sinuciderea e doar un act extrem pe care animalele il fac in situatii extreme. Noi il facem destul de aleator si de multe ori nemotivat. Dar avem dorinta de autodistrugere in noi - ne place sa fumam, sa bem alcool, sa mincam chestii nesanatoase. Inteleg ca sint placeri nevinovate, dar cel mai dureros este cind vezi cu cita placere esuam uneori in relatiile noastre, si nu ma refer doar la cupluri, ci si la relatiile parinti-copii, prieteni. Le distrugem mult mai usor decit le construim. Nu vad cum ajuta asta la evolutia speciei, dar incerc sa inteleg."

$('#box').html('Synopsis : Un pique-nique dominical assorti d\'une partie de peche a la ligne pourrait bien etre la seule facon pour Lubi et Mihai, un couple illegitime et en crise, de passer un moment ensemble et de se reconcilier. Une serie d\'evenements inattendus et deconcertants va exacerber le climat de ce qui aurait du rester un jour de repos : d\'une querelle qui debute a pied et se poursuit en voiture jusqu\'a une prostituee qui se trouve au mauvais endroit au mauvais moment. Renversee par la voiture des amants, Ana s\'immisce dans leur intimite et finit par en reveler les mensonges, les rates et les frustrations.
Ironique et secoue, un curieux jeu de massacre a la roumaine.
Critique : De la ville, d\'ou part un couple en bisbille, jusqu\'a la campagne, ou la compagnie d\'une prostituee lui donne beaucoup de fil a retordre, "Picnic" pourrait se presenter comme une variation roumaine du film "Delivrance" de John Boorman, soit la collision des citadins presomptueux et d\'une provinciale retors. Adrian Sitaru opte pour une forme effectivement remuee, mais dans un cadre delimite : d\'abord la voiture, un espace toujours tres cinematique (on se souvient de "Ten" d\'Abbas Kiarostami), puis les berges d\'une riviere tranquille, la destination du fameux pique-nique. Le choix de la camera portee a l\'epaule decoule probablement de la volonte de coller au plus pres des amants et de leurs soucis, jusqu\'a la gene. L\'objectif vient sans cesse les retrouver ou les surprendre, comme s\'ils etaient obliges de se confronter directement a ce qui coince, au lieu de se voir offrir l\'occasion de l\'esquiver le temps d\'un sandwich, d\'une biere ou d\'une sieste au bord de la riviere.
Adrian Sitaru ne craint pas d\'etre desagreable, mais son jeu reste equitable. L\'attitude de chacun des protagonistes ne peut vraisemblablement que leur attirer des ennuis : au lieu de converser, chacun se complait dans un soi-disant esprit de contradiction, en verite un mensonge pathetique et recurrent. Par son aporiesystematique, celui-ci pourrit le couple au lieu de lui offrir une issue. Lubi et Mihai s\'agitent, mais font du surplace. Surtout, ils vont trouver plus fort qu\'eux. Lubi, au charme delicieusement vulgaire et qui joue sur la corde sensible, et Mihai, au charme viril, qui se contient longuement malgre la situation (enseignant, il est sans doute accoutume aux situations tendues), croisent avec fracas la route d\'Ana, au charme ordinaire. La complaisance dont ils font preuve a l\'egard de cette prostituee va jouer en sa faveur.
A leur instar, Ana a l\'habitude de precher le faux pour connaitre le vrai. En s\'invitant a leur pique-nique, celle qui aurait du jouer le dindon de la farce se revele plutot l\'idiote savante, une Amelie Poulain au negatif qui rearrange a sa maniere la relation etiolee des deux citadins. Du moins le croit-on. Adrian Sitaru maintient en realite l\'expectative grace a de longues sequences, toujours au bord de la rupture, a un point tel qu\'on s\'attend meme au surgissement du fantastique, a un glissement vers le genre du " Survival ". Puisque la desunion du couple provient de lui-meme et de sa lachete, les basculements successifs de l\'intrigue se revelent des leurres. Ils ne resolvent pas les mesententes du couple, mais l\'amenent a d\'autres situations tourmentees. Les amants n\'ont pas vraiment heurte la gourde des campagnes avec leur voiture, ce pourrait meme etre le contraire. D\'une facon deroutante, "Picnic" reprend a son compte la fable de "l\'arroseur arrose".
